You've heard this stuff a million times but you don't know it. You've never heard it before but you have. Touching on earth and air and sky and water and all that comes between, Killed by Robots has boxed it's way into a deep place filled with earthly warmth. And forget the band's machine-empowering name, this record finds our heroes (and one heroine) as alive and kickin' as possible. This is perhaps most evident on tracks such as 'Province Undefined,' a splash into the deepest depths of melody and power that moves the listener from moments that are nearly danceable to earthly vessel shedding glee - all by the first chorus. There's an uplifting quality there, just as there is on 'Dreamlife,' where Tyson's vocals take the listener above the chaos and allow him/her to linger there until the song moves toward it's final end. Elsewhere, songs such as 'Late at the Airport' and 'Point of View,' propelled by Brandon's crushing beats, the fat, forward-feeling rumble of Kyla's bass and the rich, dual textures of Hilario and Tyson's guitar lines, soothe as much as disturb, move as much as they still. But no matter the reaction, you can't say that you've walked away from Ambulance without having felt something deep, no matter how fleeting. Jedd Beaudoin F5wichita.com.
