Description

This composer, saxophonist and flutist has long experience recording on Grammy winning and nominated releases with Tito Puente, Celia Cruz, Caravana Cubana, Bobby Matos, Linda Ronstadt, and many more, but he always wanted to blend the colors of the straight ahead Jazz drum set (epitomized here by Marvin "Smitty " Smith) into his Latin music. Michael's brother Steve Turre, the poll winning trombonist and seashell player, was able to do this in his adopted home of N.Y.C., but no one out West was playing the kind of music Michael heard in his head, so he made his own band and on this recording created some fresh sounds for Latin Jazz with several Latin American and African American masters and some elite L.A. studio players.
