Description

Now 20 years into his recording career and 11 years into his solo career, Dodd Ferrelle can be accurately characterized as a lifer. His trademark gravelly voice and his emotionally-charged stories capture the essence of the agony and ecstacy of a life lived. Dodd's in a great place now, but is able to pull from that past twenty years to find inspiration for the gamut of life's highs and lows. On Hide the World, Dodd's sixth solo release, Dodd interweaves his traditional twangy roots rock with pop sensibilities and a rough hewn rock edge to create what he calls "sonic Americana." The roots are still present, but serve more as a foundation as Dodd experiments with other instrumentation and cross-genre influences. The result is a wide-ranging rock record that fits comfortably on the spectrum that includes the Beatles, the Replacements, the Waterboys, Elvis Costello, and Wilco. Hide the World was primarily composed and demoed at Dodd's studio in Winterville, GA. Actual tracking and mixing completed at Chase Park Transduction in Athens, with David Barbe engineering. Dodd recruitied a veritable "who's who" among Athens musicians to flesh out the tracks, including several musicians who played on Lonely Parades. Dodd is currently performing in three variations: solo acoustic, three piece combo with string accompaniment, and full rock band. Hide the World's tracks have been arranged to fit any of the three variations.
