But while that band takes '60s folk rock as their blueprint, Looper is a decidedly modern creation, melding synthy keyboards, samples, and drum machines with lo-tech counterparts such as harmonica, piano, and acoustic guitar. Up a Tree is a joyous romp through the sonic playground that is Looper's world, with David's vocals serving as an earthbound counterpoint to the music, which is sometimes so light and bouncy it threatens to float away on a passing cloud.
