Coulda Beena Logger Review: Soundtrack lives up to its name - Lovely and Amazing July 16, 2002 By Joy I bought this because I had fallen in love with a song called "Forgiven" by Deb Talan that plays at the end of the movie, but have to say, this entire album was a most pleasant surprise. I hadn't heard of most of these artists before, but based on these songs, I definitely plan to seek out Elwood, who sounds like a cousin of Beck or Everlast, and Josh Rouse, who has sort of a power-pop lite vibe. I also liked the track "Almost Gone" by Ezster Balint, who is a name I totally recognized (she's an actress in Jim Jarmusch's movies and was also in the Steve Buscemi movie "Trees Lounge") but I had never known she was a singer too. The Pillbox track has a great indy girl rock sound, and the lyric really kinda fits the Catherine Keener character - "I Must Be Crazy." ... About half of the soundtrack is score by Craig Richey, who seems to really be into a sort of high lonesome prairie kind of sound. It's hard to describe, but its very gentle and lilting, and has a lot of yodeling. The other half is songs, and my favorite is definitely the Deb Talan. She reminds me of Shawn Colvin, in all the best ways. Listening to this cd now after seeing the movie last week, this album really takes me back to the movie. A lot of the music seems kind of sad but with a sort of optimistic spirit, which is what I liked most about the movie. The director of this film really has lovely and amazing musical taste. A+++
