This album is a culmination of the music that was produced over the first incarnation of J.Q. Whitcomb's quintet Five Below during it's 4-year stint playing weekly at JZ Club in Shanghai, China. It brings together a tight-knit group of excellent players, and though the compositions are nearly all J.Q.'s, the music has been influenced creatively by all the band members as it gradually evolved over the course of those years. The jazz scene and life in general in Shanghai has also brought a noticeable effect into the music, with it's vibrant, exciting, and sometimes slightly chaotic energy. As of late 2010, after living in Shanghai, China for 8 years, J.Q. returned to his hometown of Santa Fe, New Mexico. He decided to make it his home base again for continued world travels, new musical explorations and other adventures. Only after returning to the USA did this album finally see it's release, documenting musically the experiences and adventures from that period of time in China, and closing the chapter to pave the way for new directions. Engineering, mixing and mastering on all tracks by Doktor Audio (Vienna). Studio tracks recorded at JZ Studio, Shanghai China in 2008.
