Tradepost Entertainment

Record Store Day November 27th, 2020

Tradepost Entertainment is excited to once again be part of Record Store Day on November 27th, 2020.

This is a day for the people who make up the world of the record store—the staff, the customers, and the artists—to come together and celebrate the unique culture of the indie record store and the special role these independently owned stores play in their communities.

You can find more information about Record Store Day Here: Record Store Day Website, our participating location is listed below along with a guide on how to be successful on RSD with Tradepost and then the full list of titles we expect to carry.

Tips on How to Have a successful Record Store Day

With so many killer *limited quantity* exclusive releases hitting on Record Store Day, there are a bunch of rules that RSD stores have to abide by to keep this day indie and out of the hands of ebay flippers. This is about YOU music lover! Not that guy who’s trying to make a buck, but for those that will cherish these releases and never let them leave their cold dead hands. With that being said here are some helpful tips to help you have a successful RSD with Tradepost.

Due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic we are changing up our rules just a bit to help keep everyone safe and reduce risk of exposure. This year we are implementing a time-slot reservation policy to avoid lines and still provide a unique awesome shopping experience where we hope everyone will be able to get what they want out of these RSD drops over the next few months.

  1. Check out the list! We have posted the list of titles that we expect to have on RSD, the prices and why they are so damned cool. Take your time and plan out what you wish to get your hands on.

  1. Sign up for a 30 minute shopping timeslot by calling the participating store or stopping in. These are open to 4 customers at a time starting at 10:00am and will run throughout the day until everyone’s reserved slot has been completed at which time we will open up any remaining inventory on a first come first serve basis. Time-Slot reservations are also on a first come first serve basis. Once your timeslot is confirmed just show up at your reserved time and check in with our employees so we know that you have arrived and we can direct you to where all of the RSD product is located. Please be respectful of your time slot but 30 minutes should be plenty of time to allow you to browse, locate and purchase everything you want.

  1. Masks are required. No exception. Please respect a 6’ distance between other customers and employees whenever possible. Other areas of the store are open for shopping for up to 10 people maximum in the store but only RSD customers who signed up for a timeslot are allowed into the vinyl area.

  1. RSD items will be “First Come First Serve” and are limited to 1 per customer. Our goal is to make sure everyone gets a shot at that thing they really want and not encourage ebay flipping.

  1. Also all of our non-RSD vinyl product and accessories will be 15% off all day long to celebrate all things vinyl.

*NOTE* not able to make it into our store for RSD for some reason? Man, that sucks but we understand. Life is crazy. Our RSD exclusive titles will be available for purchase on our website at 12:00pm Central/Standard time. The links to purchase will go live below at 12:00pm central/standard time.

In addition, for our local customers we will also be offering curbside pickup as an option when checking out online also at 12:00pm central. Just check out which your desired purchases and select local pickup. Once you receive an email confirmation that your order is ready you can give us a call once you arrive and we’ll be happy to bring your purchases out to your car or simply swing inside with your mask on for a no-hassle pickup. Please be aware that we will not fill items that violate the 1-per customer requirement

The List

This is a list of the different albums we are planning on having in stock on Record Store Day. Each participating location will have their own mix of the titles. On Record Store Day, they will be available in store only, and we will have any remaining albums available on the website when possible.

LabelCapitol/Ume
FormatLP
InfoSome Old Bullshit is a compilation album by the Beastie Boys released in 1994. It compiles several of their early EPs, recorded in the early 1980s. Instead, these songs represent the band's part in the early New York hardcore scene. The album also features taped segments originally heard on Noise the Show, a popular hardcore radio show on WNYU in New York that played early recordings from the Beastie Boys. These segments feature the hyperbolic introductions of Noise the Show's host, Tim Sommer, an early supporter of the band. 1."Egg Raid On Mojo (Demo Version)” 2. ArtistDON CUNNINGHAM
TitleSomething For Everyone
Label Luv N'Haight
Format LP
InfoRidiculously rare vinyl, superb musicianship, and a Playboy Club are ingredients that make the Don Cunningham Quartet's Something For Everyone album so tasty. Luv N'Haight is proud to preserve and re-issue one of the most collectible, highly sought-after jazz-dance records. "Bunnies plus food and drink equals good time."Brad Holiday's original liner notes (featured on the back of this album) tell it like it was. Don Cunningham, Marion Miller, John Mixon, and Manny Quintero formed the Don Cunningham Quartet and played ‘The Living Room’ at Hugh Hefner's St. Louis branch of the Playboy Club between 1965 and 1968. Their music was different from that of the jazz mainstays playing in ‘The Penthouse Room’. It was also different from any act in St. Louis at the time. "Before forming the Quartet, I traveled to Fiji, Australia, the Caribbean and beyond as part of the Johnny Mathis group," explains Cunningham. "On these tours I discovered the "island sound," which was something I'd never been exposed to before. It was enchanting, mysterious and sexual." The Quartet's unique blend of exotica, Latin and Brazilian rhythms, jazz and easy listening was a perfect fit for the Playboy Club. "I was influenced by having seen Arthur Lyman, Cal Tjader, Willie Bobo, Mongo Santamaria, and Harry Belafonte play live. Not to mention that I was buying all the Les Baxter I could get!" adds Cunningham. The band's sound caught the attention of Bob Webb, a wealthy local businessman. As a friend of piano player Marion Miller he'd learned of the Quartet’s popularity. "I don't want to work, you work, I'll put up the money," Miller recalls Webb 's words. Webb fronted the funds for Miller to create Exclusive records, releasing three albums and two 45rpm singles, including the Something For Everyone LP. "The music was only sold locally. We never looked up a distributor and we really didn't have a regular record deal," says Miller. Don Cunningham only remembers selling and giving-away the album at Playboy appearances and to a few friends outside of club hours. Only 500 copies were ever printed, some mono, some stereo, it's not known how many of each format. Of all the tracks on the album "Tabu" has been the biggest hit with the jazz-dance crowd. That track is the reason many collectors have the album on their wants lists. It remains a tune worthy of heavy DJ play. "Something For Everyone" has been at the top of my wants list for about 10 years now. All my other wants I have managed to track down over the years, but to own an original copy of the Don Cunningham album is as illusionary as driving a Rolls Royce," says producer/DJ Rainer Truby of Compost Records. "Not only is it a rare album it is also a good one. "Tabu" to me is the mother of all jazzdance records! A welcome release! I'm curious to check the rest of the LP, but "Tabu" is more than enough of a reason to stroll down to your local record dealer," he adds. Miller and Cunningham are surprised but obviously very happy with the current interest in the album. Both are still active musicians and hope that this re-issue may stimulate even more work for them. At time of writing Cunningham was on the road with his wife, appearing as The Cunninghams on tour with the Count Basie band. "It's great that the album is being re-issued. There's truly a quality of music on it that has been missed for so long. In a way it's world music - Polynesian, samba, Brazil, jazz, West Indian. It has the energy of Latin and funk records. It's inspired by - but is not really - easy listening, you couldn't exactly sleep in our "Quiet Village!"" says Cunningham. Andrew Jervis. Ubiquity, February 2003.

The venue capacity was permitted for 115 listeners, but on the night of March 9, 2016 there might have been over 200 people stuffed into the venue. Luther Dickinson (guitar, vocals), Sharde Thomas (drums, fife, vocals), Will Sexton (guitar), Amy LaVere (upright bass) and Brandon Chornes (drums) got on stage and brought down the house that night with a very intimate and eclectic set of American music. TitleWelcome Interstate Managers
LabelReal Gone Music
Format 2 x LP
InfoIt's the most popular album by one of the greatest power pop bands of all time...and it's never been on vinyl. Welcome Interstate Managers was hailed as a classic from the day it came out in 2003, and featured the band's biggest hit with "Stacy's Mom." The songcraft and lyrical wit of Chris Collingwood and the late, great Adam Schlesinger have never been sharper; there's not a bad song on this record and a lot of them (e.g. "Bright Future in Sales;" "Hackensack") rise to the same lofty perch as "Stacy's Mom." For RSD Black Friday, Real Gone Music presents this landmark album on a 2 x LP set inside a gatefold jacket with two printed inner sleeves featuring lyrics. Natural/black swirl vinyl matches the cover art, and there’s even a bonus track: the non-LP b-side to the “Stacy's Mom” single, “Elevator Up”! 3000 released worldwide. “Mexican Wine”/”Bright Future In Sales”/”Stacy's Mom”/”Hackensack”/”No Better Place”/”Valley Winter Song”/”All Kinds Of Time”/”Little Red Light”/”Hey Julie”/”Halley’s Waitress”/”Hung Up On You”/”Fire Island”/”Peace And Love”/”Bought For A Song”/”Supercollider”/”Yours And Mine”/”Elevator Up” (Bonus Track)

TitleMy Sweet Lord
LabelCapitol/UMe
Format7" Vinyl
InfoOriginally released in November 1970 as a single, Harrison's first as a solo artist, and topped charts worldwide; it was the biggest-selling single of 1971 in the UK. In America and Britain, the song was the first number-one single by an ex-Beatle. The b-side is an anthemic ballad and one of Harrison's most celebrated compositions. "Isn't It a Pity" has been described as the emotional and musical centerpiece of All Things Must Pass and "a poignant reflection on The Beatles' coarse ending". Co-produced by Phil Spector, the recording employs multiple keyboard players, rhythm guitarists and percussionists, as well as orchestration by arranger John Barham. In its extended fadeout, the song references the closing refrain of the Beatles' 1968 hit "Hey Jude". Other musicians on the recording include Ringo Starr, Billy Preston, Gary Wright and the band Badfinger, while the reprise version features Eric Clapton on lead guitar. “My Sweet Lord”/”Isn't It A Pity”

LabelMadlib Invazion
FormatLP
InfoThe Jahari Massamba Unit features Madlib on all instrumentation with the exception of drums, which are laid down by Karriem Riggins. Like Madlib, Riggins is well-versed in both the worlds of Jazz and Hip Hop. Musically, Madlib’s label says “we would call the project Spiritual Jazz, but jazz great Phil Ranelin told us to call it Black Classical Music, so that’s what we’re going with.” This is an album put together by students of jazz in its myriad and historic corms who are also proponents of jazz’s future. The resulting recording reflects a lifetime of record collecting, musical study, woodshedding, and a reverential respect for one another’s craft. Regardless of categorization this is an exciting an all new entry in Madlib’s Yesterdays New Quintet canon of difficult-to-categorize music. Pardon My French debuts on RSD Black Friday in an exclusive colored vinyl pressing. ArtistJAZZ SABBATH
TitleJAZZ SABBATH
LabelBlacklake
Format LP / DVD
InfoAccording to the liner notes, Jazz Sabbath was a jazz trio formed in 1968. This self-titled debut album should have been released in 1970, but disaster struck when bandleader Milton Keanes suffered a massive heart attack and the label decided to cancel the release. Shortly after, a fire destroyed the label warehouse, erasing the album from existence. Upon his release from hospital many months later, Milton found out that a band from Birmingham, conveniently called 'Black Sabbath', had since released two albums containing metal versions of what he claims were his songs. With the recently discovered master tapes remixed, Milton set out to prove that the heavy metal band worshipped by millions around the world are in fact nothing more than musical charlatans, thieving the music from a bedridden, hospitalized genius. In truth; longtime Black Sabbath/Ozzy Osbourne keys and guitar player Adam Wakeman (as Milton Keanes), together with six other top musicians who only go by their ‘60s pseudonyms as well, delivered an album of Sabbath songs, reimagined as classic jazz tracks that surprised both the metal and the jazz critics (in a good way). Now for the first time on vinyl, Jazz Sabbath comes to record stores on a limited translucent blue vinyl edition, in MONO 'as originally intended in 1969’. (With a bonus track AND a bonus DVD!) TitleThe Divine Comedy
LabelReal Gone Music
Format LP
InfoUh oh…a fashion model recording an album? But there was a lot more to Milla Jovovich than just her looks; in fact, when the SBK label tried to make The Divine Comedy into a pop album, she fought back and insisted on using her own poetry and instrumental accompaniment, much of it tinged with her native Ukrainian folk themes. The result was one of the best-kept secrets of the '90s, a record that recalls Kate Bush and Tori Amos with an added Eastern European exoticism... all made at the tender age of 19, before her starring roles in The Fifth Element and the Resident Evil films. For its first LP release (outside of a shoddy Greek package), we're pressing this album on creamsicle orange and housing it inside a jacket with printed inner sleeve, for RSD Black Friday. “The Alien Song (For Those Who Listen)”; “Gentleman Who Fell”; “It's Your Life”; “Reaching from Nowhere”; “Charlie”; “Ruby Lane”; “Bang Your Head”; “Clock”; “Don't Fade Away”; “You Did It All Before”; “In a Glade”

TitleNo Business: The PPX Sessions Volume 2
Label Legacy
FormatLP
InfoNo Business: The PPX Sessions Volume 2 continues the documentation of Jimi Hendrix’s pre-Experience sideman work with the Harlem-based R&B combo. These twelve recordings were captured at Studio 76 in 1965 [as well as two controversial sessions in July and August 1967] and offer a fascinating glimpse of Hendrix’s genius in the years before—and during—his early success. It includes the 1965 demo of the first known Hendrix composition (“Working All Day”) and shiver-inducing guitar playing that hints at the genius to come. While not a Jimi Hendrix album the music is now under the control of Experience Hendrix, and thanks to them has been lovingly restored by legendary engineer Eddie Kramer for RSD Black Friday, giving fans the chance to enjoy these tracks in their proper historical context in a numbered, limited edition brown vinyl release. Title38 MacDougal
Label Delmore Recordings
Format LP
InfoMastertone Studios, NYC, 1965... Amidst mounting friction with producer Paul Rothchild, Fred Neil walks out of the unfinished sessions for what was to be his debut album, Bleecker & MacDougal. Fearing Fred wouldn't return to the studio, his friend and guitar player Peter Childs invited him over to his apartment at 38 MacDougal. According to Childs, "The best chance to get Freddie back wouldn't be to try to persuade him verbally, but to get him over to the apartment for a bit of music-making.” What transpired on that afternoon was a legendary singer-songwriter and his long-time accompanist making music for themselves in a living room setting, a one-of-a-kind private performance, captured on Ampex reel to reel, and stored for over fifty years! The apartment recordings at 38 MacDougal were beautifully detailed in Peter Lee Neff's 2018 Fred Neil biography, That's The Bag I'm In. Fred and Peter play songs that would later wind up on Bleecker & MacDougal ("Travellin' Shoes", "Country Boy", "Gone Again", "Candy Man", "Little Bit Of Rain"), a definitive "Sweet Cocaine", and two songs that don't appear on any other Fred Neil album: the traditional folk song""Once I Had A Sweetheart", and the African-American spiritual "Blind Man Standing By The Road And Crying". (Despite the biography mentioning that the latter recording cuts off before it ends, Delmore Recording’s tape magically has the complete performance in all its glory.) Fred takes the song on a personal and deep journey, and Peter Childs adds the most perfect musical touches. It's also the first appearance on a Fred Neil record of one of the many Spiritual songs that were often a part of his live repertoire. * RSD Black Friday 2020 Exclusive Release * Deluxe Stoughton tip-on jacket, booklet featuring a treasure trove of previously unseen images, and notes by Fred Neil’s son, Christopher Lasher. SIDE ONE: “Little Bit Of Rain”, “Country Boy”, “Gone Again”, “Candy Man” SIDE TWO: “Travelin' Shoes”, “Once I Had A Sweetheart”, “Sweet Cocaine”, “Blind Man Standin' By The Road And Cryin'”
