THE MOONSHINE CHERRYS ASK A LOT FROM THEIR LISTENERS... They ask them to have a great time with great songs. They ask them to believe in the power of a three piece rock and roll band, and to travel the distance of musical boundaries to find a hybrid of powerful rhythms and accessible lyrics. Heavy on substance and light on chasing the flavor-of-the-month club, the Cherrys revive the hope that great music and solid songwriting still exist in rock music today. With the December 2004 release of the self-produced sophomore effort Nights Like These, as well as relentless self-promotion and continued touring; the Moonshine Cherrys continue to turn heads. The Cherrys have built a strong following in the region around Knoxville, Tennessee by playing thousands of gigs from Tennessee to Northern Virginia to Missouri to Florida. The band's first CD (theMoonshine Cherrys - Syren Records 1999 - produced by veteran songwriter-rocker Keith Sykes of Memphis) is full of performances that challenge and reward the listener all at once. 'I'd just say it's rock 'n roll, but there are some things on the CD that have a bluesy element,' said Ted Thompson, the group's lead singer, songwriter and bass player. The latest release continues to blend rock, blues, pop and acoustic music into an engaging collection of songs. TED THOMPSON - songwriter/vocals/bass Ted started on the violin in elementary school but soon switched to bass guitar. It was around this time he began writing songs. The Cherrys still play some of Ted's early compositions, a testament to his songwriting ability. He is even known to pick up the guitar on occasion at a live show! He has been featured at the Songwriter's Showcase on Beale Street in Memphis - sharing the stage with 'Cowboy' Jack Clement, Danny Flowers, Alex Harvey, Paul Craft, and others - as well as other Songwriter showcases in Knoxville and Nashville, TN. PAUL BEASLEY - guitars/backing vocals Paul picked up a guitar at thirteen and has never put it down! After 7 years as a successful solo act, Paul was eager to team up with the Moonshine Cherrys. 'I always thought that music was to be shared - I just never found a band I was totally comfortable with', Paul explains. Beasley brings technical expertise (he recorded, mixed and mastered the band's second CD) and a strong Americana influence to the group. On producing the Moonshine Cherry's newest album Paul says, 'We were able to come closer to what we heard in our heads sonic-wise on this CD plus we had a blast doing it.'
